Too many amateurs out there claiming the Fiesta ST is too small.

Kinja'd!!!

That's a 6ft tall by 4ft wide by 2.5ft deep vinyl shed.

Here's a 90 gallon deck box on the Fiesta:

A recent tool box purchase in my girlfriend's Fiesta:

And an old favorite:

Yeah, still don't need a Focus ST. Or a truck.

On the roof? That's sketchy.. I feel like that's just asking to scrape or dent something. Would I do it with a rental? Absolutely.. but not with my own car.

What's the roof rack capacity? I like your style.

This is why every small car needs a hitch receiver. Got one installed on my ZX2 and it was pretty much a complete badass beastie. In fact, it earned that nickname. Towed and carried all my stuff 1400 miles in a single shot. When I needed a truck, I'd rent an open trailer, hitch it up, and drag it. Moved large appliances like a boss...

...does nothing to distribute the load that spikes with every dip in the road.

While that's a good option for small trailers, it has to be a really small trailer. The ZX2 is only rated to tow 1000 lbs with a tongue weight of 100 lbs. For comparison, a F150 can haul over 2200 lbs in the bed. It's not exactly a replacement for a truck, nor is it good for your engine/transmission or brakes nor is it necessarily legal if you go over that weight. You might not be insured to drive over your towing capacity.

I bought the Focus ST instead because my head touched the ceiling over bumps with the seat at its lowest setting.

You need a Utility Vehicle!!!

I drive an SUV, because I need the space for lawn equipment, I can fit a mower in the back without having to open the back window, I use it because I mow lawns for a living, and an SUV lets me hall it all around.

granted unless you are using it on a daily basis (like me) you probably don't need it. but personally, I need a car with a lot of space, plus BODY ON FRAME YO, and proper 4WD and a low range gear box.

Yes. I just don't fit comfortably in one die to the ergonomics. Which is strange because it's one of the only cars I don't fit in well. Even a Miata or a Fiat 500 seems to have more room.

This would have been over capacity but I bet 50lb with roof rails. I had most of the load on the seems and the sunroof area where it was stiffest. And, the car has 5 star rollover rating which loosely means it can statically take 5 times its weight when upside down. I think. This is nowhere near one time its weight. 5 mile trip with the big one. 20 miles with the small one.

Seams on edges of the roof and the moonroof frame are plenty stiff for this kind of load.

The big tow was sketchy in that car, I admit. I loaded down both and had a total weight (car + trailer + people + cargo) of about 5000lbs, with over twice the weight of the trailer+cargo in the car. Suspension was the sketchiest part since rear was some kind of independent. With a Fiesta it should be higher... The biggest thing most people move are refrigerators, which are light but big on volume. The heaviest are probably washing machines or couches. These are cake to move with a utility trailer.

It is much safer than strapping stuff to the roof and less risk of damage than loading inside. Utility trailers are great for the occasional small load, few of which will even hit half a ton.

The funny thing is that similar EU cars are rated higher for towing than their US equivalents. Probably so manufacturers can scare us into buying more high-markup SUVs and trucks. It's surprising how much you can tow.

Most of us don't need that kind of capacity even 1% of the time. The random heavy loading and towing will get you by the rest of the time.

The EU has different load regulation, different licensing requirements and lower speed limits for trailers. A truck is still a much safer way to tow anything.

Can you move large things in a tiny car? Surely

Is it 1000x easier when you can just drop a tailgate and shove whatever in the bed without having to play Tetris with your cargo items? Damn right.

I ain’t hating on the Fiesta, great little car. But you’d be much better off with a small crossover or a wagon (Golf Sportwagen, manual, diesel, brown) if you can only have one car...
